Two Notorious Criminals Injured in Police Encounter in Southeast Delhi; Accused with 113 Criminal Cases Among Those Arrested

New Delhi, June 30: Two alleged criminals, including a history-sheeter facing over 113 criminal cases, were arrested following a late-night police encounter near Jal Vihar in Lajpat Nagar, South-East Delhi Police said.

According to police, a joint team of the Special Task Force (STF) and the Anti Auto Theft Squad (AATS) intercepted the suspects while they were allegedly on their way to commit a crime using a stolen motorcycle.

When police attempted to stop them, the accused allegedly abandoned the motorcycle and opened indiscriminate fire on the police team in an attempt to escape.

Police retaliated in self-defence, during which both accused sustained bullet injuries to their right legs. They were subsequently overpowered and shifted to Safdarjung Hospital for treatment.

Illegal Weapons Recovered

Police recovered the following from the accused:

  • One illegal pistol along with a magazine.
  • One country-made pistol (desi katta).

According to police, the accused fired three rounds, while the police team fired four rounds during the exchange of fire.

One Accused Faces 113 Criminal Cases

Among those arrested is Pramod Kumar alias Tootan, who is allegedly involved in around 113 criminal cases, including robbery, snatching, attempt to murder and offences under the Arms Act.

The second accused, identified as Rajesh, is also a repeat offender with approximately 15 criminal cases registered against him, police said.

Police have initiated further investigation to ascertain whether the accused were planning any specific crime in the area and to identify any other associates linked to the case.
