MCD Intensifies ‘Dust-Free Roads’ and Special Cleanliness Drives Across Delhi

New Delhi, May 23: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has intensified its large-scale “Dust-Free Roads” campaign and special cleanliness drives across all 12 zones under the Swachh Bharat Mission to improve urban cleanliness and reduce dust pollution in the national capital.

As part of the campaign, the civic body has deployed:

  • mechanised road sweeping (MRS) machines
  • water sprinklers
  • jetting machines
  • sanitation workers

to ensure regular cleaning and dust control on major roads and public spaces.

Karol Bagh Zone Cleans Over 15 Km of Roads

The Karol Bagh Zone launched a 15-day “Dust-Free Roads” campaign from May 18, 2026, covering major PWD roads including:

  • Girdhari Lal Goswami Marg
  • Vande Mataram Marg
  • Shankar Road
  • Rani Jhansi Road
  • DB Gupta Road
  • Najafgarh Road

The campaign involved mechanised cleaning, removal of roadside dust and debris, footpath washing and regular water sprinkling.

Till May 21, around:

  • 15.2 km of roads were cleaned
  • 20.8 metric tonnes of dust removed
  • 9.2 metric tonnes of waste cleared

South Zone Targets Major Roads

In the South Zone, cleanliness drives were carried out on:

  • Dhaula Kuan to AIIMS stretch
  • Nelson Mandela Marg
  • Aurobindo Marg
  • Rao Tularam Marg
  • Africa Avenue Road

The campaign covered nearly 8–10 sq km with deployment of:

  • 100–150 sanitation workers
  • MRS machines
  • tippers and trucks
  • water sprinklers
  • jetting machines

Officials said approximately 20.31 metric tonnes of dust and waste were removed during the operation.

Special Campaign in City-SP Zone

A special sanitation drive was also conducted in Magazine Road, Aruna Nagar and Majnu Ka Tila areas under the City-SP Zone in the presence of senior MCD officials and representatives of the GNCTD Trade and Tax Department.

The operation included:

  • road and lane cleaning
  • lifting of garbage and C&D waste
  • cleaning of green belts and footpaths

Anti-smog guns, MRS and jetting machines were used, while nearly 130 sanitation workers participated in the drive.

Rohini Zone Conducts Public Awareness Activities

In the Rohini Zone, a sanitation drive was carried out from Rithala Metro Station to the Flood Control Drain area covering nearly 1.5 sq km.

During the campaign:

  • nearly 4 metric tonnes of waste were collected
  • awareness activities on plastic pollution reduction and cleanliness were also organised

West Zone Uses Mechanised Dust-Control Measures

The West Zone conducted special drives on:

  • Najafgarh Road (Rajouri Garden)
  • Mahatma Gandhi Road
  • Punjabi Bagh
  • Outer Ring Road (Vikas Puri)
  • Pankha Road
  • Janakpuri areas

Nearly 100–120 sanitation workers were deployed across 12–15 sq km areas.

The operation utilised:

  • 10 tippers
  • 4 trucks
  • 6 mechanised sweeping machines
  • 2 water sprinklers

for mechanised cleaning and dust-control operations.

MCD Focuses on Dust-Free Delhi

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi said it is continuously working towards ensuring a cleaner, dust-free and healthier environment through:

  • regular monitoring
  • mechanised sanitation systems
  • public participation initiatives, across the city.
