New Delhi, May 22: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested an Assistant Commissioner of the Delhi Food & Supply Department posted at Asian Market, Pushp Vihar, in a bribery case linked to ration card allotment.
According to the CBI press release, the agency registered the case on May 20, 2026, against the accused official over allegations of demanding illegal gratification for allotment and distribution of ration cards.
Bribe Allegedly Demanded for Ration Card Distribution
The CBI stated that the accused allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹100 per ration card for allotment and distribution of 475 ration cards.
Investigators alleged that nearly 120 ration cards were proposed to be allotted to each nearby ration shop, including the complainant’s shop. Based on this, the total alleged bribe demand from the complainant amounted to around ₹12,000.
CBI Trap Operation
The anti-corruption agency said it laid a trap on May 21, 2026, and caught the Assistant Commissioner red-handed while allegedly demanding and accepting ₹10,000 from the complainant.
Following the trap operation, the accused official was arrested by the CBI.
Investigation Underway
The CBI said further investigation into the case is currently underway.
In its statement, the agency reiterated its commitment to taking strict action against corrupt public servants and urged citizens to report corruption-related complaints to the CBI Anti-Corruption Branch.
