Delhi Crime Branch Arrests Murder Convict Who Jumped Parole, Was Absconding for 24 Years

Date:

New Delhi, May 20: In a major breakthrough, the North Range-I (NR-I) unit of Delhi Crime Branch has apprehended a life convict in a murder case registered at Jahangir Puri Police Station, who had been absconding for nearly 24 years after jumping parole in 2002.

According to Delhi Police, the accused had managed to evade arrest for over two decades by frequently changing his identity and secretly residing in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.

Police officials said the convict was serving a life sentence in a murder case before absconding while out on parole in 2002. Since then, he had remained on the run and continuously shifted locations to avoid detection by law enforcement agencies.

Following sustained surveillance and technical investigation, the Crime Branch team successfully tracked down and arrested the accused from Prayagraj.

The operation was carried out by a team led by Inspector Ajay Sharma under the supervision of ACP Ashok Sharma and overall guidance of DCP Pankaj Kumar.

Delhi Police described the arrest as a significant success in tracing long-absconding criminals and reaffirmed its commitment to tracking down fugitives involved in serious offences.
