BJP Alleges ‘Sheesh Mahal 2’ by Arvind Kejriwal, Questions Funding and Luxury Living

Date:

New Delhi: The political war between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) intensified on Saturday, with BJP leaders launching a fresh attack on AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal over alleged extravagant living and misuse of funds, dubbing it as “Sheesh Mahal 2.”

Addressing a press conference, senior BJP leader and Delhi Cabinet Minister Pravesh Verma accused Kejriwal of betraying the promise of simplicity and honesty that he had once projected during the anti-corruption movement. He alleged that while Kejriwal claimed to represent the “common man,” his lifestyle reflected that of royalty.

BJP Alleges ‘Sheesh Mahal 2’ by Arvind Kejriwal, Questions Funding and Luxury Living

Verma claimed that Kejriwal’s new residence at 95 Lodhi Estate is an ultra-luxurious property equipped with multiple bedrooms, drawing rooms, high-end interiors, and premium fittings. “A leader who promised a modest two-room accommodation has built a palace-like residence. This raises serious questions about the source of funding,” he said.

Questions Raised by BJP

The BJP posed several key questions to Kejriwal and the AAP leadership:

  • What is the total expenditure incurred on the construction and furnishing of the new residence?
  • What are the sources of funds used for the project?
  • Which companies or entities financed or contributed to the construction?
  • Will the public be allowed access or transparency regarding the project?

The BJP also alleged that similar luxury spending was earlier seen in the controversial “Sheesh Mahal” residence constructed during Kejriwal’s tenure, and questioned whether the same pattern has been repeated.

Attack Over ‘Luxury vs Simplicity’

BJP leaders accused Kejriwal of hypocrisy, stating that he rose to power on the promise of clean politics and simple living but is now allegedly indulging in lavish expenditures. They criticised the contrast between public welfare issues—such as water, electricity, and infrastructure—and the alleged focus on personal luxury.

Political Context

The remarks come amid heightened political tensions following recent developments in AAP, including internal dissent and leaders distancing themselves from the party. BJP leaders linked the alleged extravagance to growing dissatisfaction within AAP ranks.

The BJP further claimed that citizens of Delhi are increasingly questioning the leadership’s priorities and accountability, particularly in light of governance challenges faced by the city.

AAP Yet to Respond

At the time of reporting, the Aam Aadmi Party had not issued an official response to the allegations. The controversy is expected to escalate further as political exchanges intensify in the run-up to upcoming elections.

The issue has once again brought focus on transparency, public accountability, and the use of public or private funds in political leadership.
