Delhi Conducts Large-Scale Mock Drill Across Districts to Test Emergency and Terror Response Preparedness

Date:

New Delhi: A large-scale mock drill was conducted across multiple districts in the national capital to assess preparedness for emergency and crisis situations, including potential terror attacks and hostage scenarios.

The exercise saw participation from multiple agencies including Delhi Police, Fire Department, Civil Defence, NDRF, SDRF, and other emergency response units. The objective was to evaluate coordination, response time, and readiness in handling unforeseen situations.

One of the key drills was conducted at Omaxe Mall in Chandni Chowk, where authorities simulated a hostage situation inside the mall. As part of the exercise, the premises were completely blacked out to replicate conditions during a possible terror attack or air strike scenario.

Officials explained that such blackout measures are crucial to prevent visibility during hostile situations, ensuring that no light escapes from buildings, which could otherwise aid attackers. The drill also included evacuation strategies, rescue operations, and setting up temporary safe zones like bunkers in basements.

Authorities confirmed that similar mock drills were conducted at 13 locations across Delhi. In the morning, hostage simulation exercises were carried out, followed by blackout drills in the evening to test real-time emergency protocols.

Civil Defence officials stated that the exercise was aimed at preparing agencies for worst-case scenarios and improving coordination among departments. Teams including commandos, medical staff, and disaster response units were actively involved.

The administration emphasised that such drills are essential to ensure public safety and to equip authorities with practical experience in managing high-risk situations effectively.
