New Delhi: In a major breakthrough against organized crime, the Inter State Cell (ISC) of Delhi Police’s Crime Branch has arrested a wanted associate of the notorious Gogi gang in connection with a firing and ₹50 lakh extortion case registered at Wazirabad Police Station in 2023.
The accused, identified as Ankush Chopra @ Sachin (25), a resident of Maujpur, had been absconding for nearly two years and was declared a Proclaimed Offender by a Delhi court on June 30, 2025.
The 2023 Firing Incident
The case dates back to November 30, 2023, when a PCR call reported firing at the residence of a businessman in Wazirabad. An unidentified assailant, riding pillion on a black Splendor motorcycle without number plates, allegedly fired a shot towards the complainant’s house before fleeing the spot.
Police recovered a slip at the scene demanding ₹50 lakh in extortion money in the name of the “Gogi Gang.” Subsequently, FIR No. 1060/2023 was registered under Sections 336/387/506/120-B/174-A IPC and Sections 25/27 of the Arms Act.
During the course of investigation, Crime Branch officials analyzed CCTV footage and other technical evidence, leading to the apprehension of two juveniles in conflict with law (CCLs) and arrest of six associates. However, Ankush Chopra had remained elusive until now.
Jail-Based Conspiracy
Investigations revealed that co-accused Manish @ Sunny Kakran and Manmohan @ Gaurav, who were lodged in Tihar Jail at the time, had allegedly orchestrated the firing and extortion attempt using juvenile associates.
The SIM card used for communication between the jailed accused and the shooters was reportedly registered in the name of Ankush Chopra. During interrogation, the accused claimed that he had handed over the SIM card to associates, who then facilitated its use by the incarcerated conspirators.
The Arrest Operation
Acting on specific intelligence, a dedicated team comprising Insp. Satender Poonia, Insp. Sohan Lal, SI Rakesh Sharma, ASIs Suresh Kumar and Dalbir Singh, under the supervision of ACP Ramesh Chander Lamba, conducted a targeted raid at Shastri Marg, Maujpur, leading to Chopra’s arrest.
Criminal Background
Police said the accused is a habitual offender with prior involvement in multiple criminal cases, including Arms Act and BNS-related offences registered at Jafrabad Police Station.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Aditya Gautam stated:
“The arrest of the proclaimed offender marks a significant step in dismantling organized extortion networks operating under the Gogi gang banner. Delhi Police remains committed to pursuing absconding criminals relentlessly and ensuring that those involved in firing and intimidation tactics face the full force of law.”
Further investigation is underway to uncover additional links and financial trails connected to the extortion racket.
