BJP Names Bihar Minister Nitin Nabin as National Working President, Surprise Move Signals Next-Gen Leadership Push

Date:

New Delhi / Patna: In a move that has surprised even senior party leaders, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday appointed Bihar Minister and five-time MLA Nitin Nabin as the party’s National Working President, signalling a clear shift towards next-generation leadership within the organisation.

The decision, announced through an official press release issued by BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh, stated that the party’s Parliamentary Board has appointed Nitin Nabin as National Working President with immediate effect. The appointment has triggered widespread political discussion, as Nabin’s name was not part of the speculative race for the post.

Political observers point out that the post of Working President is widely seen as a stepping stone to the BJP’s National President, a position that requires a formal electoral process. In the past too, leaders such as Amit Shah were first appointed as Working President before assuming the party’s top organisational post.

A Patna-based MLA from Bankipur, Nitin Nabin has emerged as one of the fastest-rising leaders in Bihar BJP politics. Born in 1980, he has won five consecutive Assembly elections, served as a key cabinet minister in the Bihar government, and handled major portfolios such as Road Construction and Urban Development. He is also credited with delivering organisational results as BJP’s Chhattisgarh in-charge.

Despite his growing stature, the announcement came as a shock across political corridors in Delhi and Patna, with multiple leaders reportedly seeking confirmation before accepting the development. Senior journalists noted that even BJP insiders had not anticipated his elevation, underlining the party’s reputation for taking unexpected, high-impact leadership decisions.

Party sources say the decision reflects the top leadership’s confidence in Nitin Nabin’s organisational skills, administrative experience, and ability to work across regions and communities. While caste equations were widely speculated upon in the run-up to the decision, BJP leaders emphasise that Nabin’s selection is driven more by performance, discipline, and organisational understanding than by social arithmetic alone.

With this appointment, the BJP has sent a clear message that it is grooming young, proven leaders for national responsibilities, even as it prepares for upcoming organisational elections and future electoral battles.
