New Delhi: Hours after a powerful explosion near Red Fort, Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha briefed the media with an initial statement, confirming that multiple investigative agencies, including NIA, NSG, FSL, and Delhi Police, are jointly probing the incident.
According to Golcha, the blast occurred at around 6:52 pm when a slow-moving vehicle halted at a traffic signal near Lal Quila. “A sudden explosion took place inside the vehicle, injuring the passengers and damaging nearby cars. As soon as the information was received, teams from all major agencies reached the spot and began inspection,” Golcha said.

The commissioner confirmed that several people sustained injuries, while some fatalities have also been reported, though the exact figures are yet to be released. “We are continuously assessing the situation, and the exact number of casualties will be shared soon,” he added.

Golcha further informed that Home Minister Amit Shah has been personally monitoring the situation, receiving regular updates from senior officers. “The Home Minister has been briefed about every development, and all teams are coordinating at the highest level,” he said.

Investigators are currently analysing CCTV footage, vehicle remains, and forensic samples to determine whether the explosion was an accident, mechanical fault, or a deliberate act. Security has been heightened across the Red Fort area and adjoining zones.
