After 17 Years on the Run: Delhi Police Capture Murder Suspect on Moving Train

Date:

NEW DELHI: After 17 years, the Delhi Police have finally apprehended a murder suspect from a moving train in Maharashtra. The accused, identified as Md Alam (43), had been on the run since 2008 when he was involved in a murder case in Bihar. Along with five associates, Alam had stabbed a man to death, leading to a murder case being registered against him on October 30, 2008.

Despite being wanted for over a decade, Alam managed to evade arrest until 2021 when his daughter accused him of assault and filed a complaint in Delhi. Even after being granted interim bail in February 2023, Alam jumped bail and was declared a proclaimed offender by a Delhi court later that year.

Acting on a tip-off received on May 6, a police team boarded the Shramik Express at Itarsi in Madhya Pradesh and conducted an intense search on the moving train for three to four hours. After meticulously scanning each coach, Alam was finally located and arrested at Jalgaon Junction, covering over 1,100 km in a 20-hour operation.

Over the years, Alam had changed his identity, appearance, and locations multiple times to evade capture, moving between Bihar, Delhi, and Maharashtra. He had several addresses and frequently changed his mobile numbers to avoid detection. At the time of his arrest, Alam was en route to Valsad in Gujarat.

Following his arrest, Alam was presented before a local court in Maharashtra and then brought to Delhi. The Bihar Police were informed of his apprehension, and further investigation into the case is currently underway.
