Ranya Rao Gold Smuggling Case: Father of Kannada Actor, DGP Ramachandra Rao, Questioned

BENGALURU: In a recent development, DGP Ramachandra Rao, the stepfather of Kannada actor Ranya Rao, was questioned on Monday in connection with the gold smuggling case. Rao, who was placed on compulsory leave on March 15, was interrogated by an investigative team led by IAS officer Gaurav Gupta, and his statement was officially recorded.

The investigative report is expected to be submitted to the Karnataka government within the next two days, as per the government’s directive to the committee to present the findings within a week. Previously, the IPS officer was serving as the Managing Director of the Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation. He was sent on compulsory leave by the Karnataka Government a few days ago.

Meanwhile, Ranya Rao is currently incarcerated at the Parappana Agrahara Jail in Bengaluru. Her arrest came after the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) confiscated gold bars worth Rs 12.56 crore from Rao at Kempegowda International Airport upon her arrival from Dubai on March 3.
