Delhi Assembly’s ‘Monkey Expert’ Tender Explained: What the PWD Actually Wants

Date:

New Delhi: Amid widespread social media chatter about an “unusual job” involving imitating monkey sounds, official records show that the Delhi government has issued a formal tender for professional monkey menace control services at the Delhi Vidhan Sabha premises, not a casual recruitment or individual job posting.

The tender, issued by the Public Works Department (PWD), Government of NCT of Delhi, seeks agencies to provide the services of a “Monkey Expert” to prevent monkey-related disturbances in and around the Assembly complex located at the Old Secretariat, Civil Lines.

According to the tender document, the contract is valued at approximately ₹17.52 lakh and will be valid for a period of one year (365 days). The scope of work involves ensuring the safety of the premises by deterring monkeys through approved and humane methods.

Contrary to viral claims, the document does not describe the role as an individual job requiring people to shout or mimic monkey sounds for a fixed number of hours. Instead, it is a standard government outsourcing contract, open only to experienced agencies that have previously executed similar monkey control services for government institutions.

The eligibility criteria clearly state that bidders must have prior experience in providing “Monkey Expert” services over the past seven years and must comply with statutory requirements, including GST registration, EPFO, and ESIC norms. The tender process follows the e-procurement system and includes provisions for earnest money deposit and performance guarantees.

Officials point out that monkey menace has been a persistent issue in several parts of Delhi, particularly around high-security and heritage zones. Earlier measures such as static deterrents and visual installations have reportedly lost effectiveness, prompting authorities to rely on professional wildlife management services.

The tender reflects a structured administrative response to an urban wildlife problem, rather than the quirky or humorous portrayal circulating online. While the terminology “Monkey Expert” has caught public attention, it is a technical designation commonly used in government contracts for trained animal deterrence personnel.

PWD officials have reiterated that the objective is to ensure safety, prevent damage to public property, and maintain order around the Assembly complex through lawful and humane methods.
