New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena said the restoration of the Yamuna is both an environmental and a cultural responsibility that requires sustained public participation.
Addressing the 17th Nadi Utsav at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Saxena said rivers carry civilisational memory and referred to Punjab as the land of five rivers.
According to a post from the Lieutenant Governor’s official account, he said governments alone cannot restore rivers and called for cooperation among public agencies, institutions, civil society organisations and citizens.
The post described the Yamuna as being connected with Delhi’s cultural and religious memory. It did not announce a new restoration project, allocation or implementation timeline.
