New Delhi: MCD has regularised 1,467 sanitation workers in two months and plans to regularise around 400 more before Diwali, Mayor Pravesh Wahi said on October 19.
The Mayor said the corporation was also aiming to regularise approximately 7,630 sanitation workers over the following three months. Those future targets are separate from the 1,467 regularisations already announced.
505 workers regularised in October
Of the measures announced, 505 sanitation workers from the 1998–2000 and 2000–2002 batches were regularised in October, Wahi said at a press conference at MCD headquarters.
During the same month, dependants of deceased sanitation workers were appointed to 109 posts on compassionate grounds, while 111 Assistant Sanitation Inspectors were promoted to Sanitation Inspector.
Compassionate appointments to 542 posts
The Mayor also reported appointments of dependants of deceased sanitation workers to 542 posts as daily-wage sanitation workers on compassionate grounds. These appointments are distinct from regularisation of existing workers.
Wahi said regularisation would offer the affected workers and their families greater employment stability and social security. He described sanitation workers as central to Delhi’s cleanliness system and said their welfare and entitlements were priorities for the corporation.
Deputy Mayor Monika Pant, Standing Committee chairperson Satya Sharma, Leader of the House Jai Bhagwan Yadav and Environment Management Services Committee chairperson Sandeep Kapoor attended the press conference.
