Goyla Dairy Biogas Plant to Buy Dung at 67 Paise per Kg, Process 200 Tonnes Daily

Date:

New Delhi: Dairy operators at Goyla Dairy are to receive 67 paise per kilogram for cow dung collected under a new biogas project, according to MCD, which said the plant has capacity to process 200 metric tonnes a day.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the ₹16-crore facility in the Najafgarh area on October 19. The project is intended to divert dung from drains, produce clean fuel and reduce pollution reaching the Yamuna, the civic body’s release said.

Compressed biogas to be supplied to IGL

The plant is expected to generate approximately 14,000 cubic metres of raw biogas and around 5.6 tonnes of purified compressed biogas daily. The compressed biogas is to be supplied to Indraprastha Gas Limited through a pipeline.

These are the output expectations stated in the release, rather than verified daily production figures. Slurry remaining after processing is to be used as organic manure.

Collection system for dairy operators

The project agency will collect cow dung from dairy operators at 67 paise per kilogram. MCD said approximately 200 metric tonnes of dung are generated daily in the Goyla Dairy area.

Gupta asked dairy operators and residents to use the designated collection system instead of releasing dung into drains. Officials and plant operators were asked to ensure regular collection, safe processing and smooth operation.

Six more plants in the pipeline, CM says

The Chief Minister said three biogas plants had been commissioned in 18 months and work was underway on six more. She said the Nangli Sakrawati plant had processed 55,000 tonnes of dung in a year, with ₹3.5 crore paid to farmers.

Gupta also announced a ₹50-crore allocation for drains and drainage improvements in Delhi’s dairy colonies. She said preventing pollution at its source was essential to cleaning the Yamuna.

Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood and Mayor Pravesh Wahi attended the inauguration. Wahi said the Delhi government had provided financial assistance and modern equipment for the initiative.
