New Delhi, June 3: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has directed the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to strictly enforce building bylaws and implement a time-bound strategy to curb unauthorized constructions and illegal structural expansions across the national capital.
Chairing a high-level review meeting with senior MCD officials, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized the need for decisive action against violations of building regulations to strengthen structural safety and improve planned urban development in Delhi.
Sandhu instructed the civic body to ensure strict compliance with building bylaws and take firm measures against illegal structural additions that pose safety risks and undermine urban planning norms.
The Lieutenant Governor reviewed a comprehensive action plan aimed at improving urban governance, civic infrastructure and structural safety standards across the city. He stressed that unauthorized constructions must be addressed through a systematic and time-bound enforcement mechanism.
Apart from building safety issues, the meeting also reviewed key civic priorities ahead of the monsoon season. Sandhu directed officials to expedite desilting of stormwater drains to prevent waterlogging during heavy rainfall.
He also reviewed ongoing road and pavement repair works, emphasizing their importance in reducing dust pollution and improving public convenience. Municipal authorities were further instructed to intensify garbage clearance operations to strengthen sanitation standards across Delhi.
The Lieutenant Governor also reviewed public welfare initiatives being implemented by the civic administration. Particular focus was placed on accelerating the implementation of the PM-UDAY scheme for residents living in unauthorized colonies.
In addition, discussions were held on finalizing a participatory Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework for the rejuvenation and maintenance of public parks across the city.
Sandhu stated that the initiatives are aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of inclusive development and citizen-centric governance.
He reiterated the administration’s commitment to providing every resident of Delhi with a safe, planned, clean and dignified living environment through stronger civic governance and effective enforcement of urban regulations.
