New Delhi: Delhi has expanded Mission ANMOL to provide free newborn screening for 63 genetic, metabolic and congenital disorders, raising its annual screening target from 1.5 lakh to 2.5 lakh babies, the Delhi government said.
More than 75,000 newborns have been screened so far, and over 700 children have received timely treatment under the initiative, according to the government’s update.
Early screening and timely care
The expansion places early identification of disorders at the centre of the programme. The government described its approach as moving from early screening to early care, with the aim of supporting better health outcomes for newborns.
The new target represents an increase of one lakh newborn screenings a year over the earlier annual goal. The government said screening under Mission ANMOL will remain free.
