Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Participates in ‘Somnath Swabhiman Parv’, Offers Prayers at Gauri Shankar Temple

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta participated in celebrations marking the completion of 75 years of the reconstruction of the Somnath Temple, describing the occasion as a symbol of India’s cultural pride, Sanatan consciousness and national self-respect.

Sharing details on X, the Chief Minister said the entire nation was celebrating “Somnath Swabhiman Parv” in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who performed traditional पूजा-अर्चना and जलाभिषेक at the historic Somnath Temple.

Rekha Gupta said the reconstruction of Somnath represents not merely the rebuilding of a temple, but the resurgence of India’s eternal civilizational spirit and cultural identity despite repeated invasions and destruction in history.

As part of the celebrations, the Delhi CM attended the live telecast of the Somnath event and later offered prayers and performed जलाभिषेक at the historic Gauri Shankar Temple in Chandni Chowk, praying for the prosperity, peace and well-being of the nation.

She said Somnath stands as a symbol of India’s unbroken faith and spiritual strength, adding that the temple’s reconstruction after repeated attacks reflects the enduring nature of India’s Sanatan traditions and cultural resilience.

Highlighting the Centre’s heritage initiatives, Rekha Gupta said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India is moving forward with the vision of “Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi”, balancing development with preservation of cultural heritage.

She said projects ranging from Kashi Vishwanath Corridor to Kedarnath redevelopment, Mahakal Lok and Somnath are examples of India’s ongoing cultural renaissance.

Cabinet colleagues including Parvesh Sahib Singh, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, and Kapil Mishra, along with a large number of devotees, were also present during the programme.

The Chief Minister concluded her message with chants of “Har Har Mahadev” and “Jai Somnath.”
