Date:

New Delhi: A tragic incident unfolded in Janakpuri, West Delhi, when a drunk teenager, driving at high speed, collided with two bicycles and subsequently crashed into a roadside jhuggi, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to three others, including a pregnant woman and a child. According to officials, the teenager’s friend had cautioned him to reduce his speed moments before the devastating accident.

The accused, identified as 19-year-old Harsh Sehrawat, a resident of Pochanpur village in Dwarka, was reportedly intoxicated and searching for a dhaba (roadside eatery) when the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday.

Sehrawat was arrested on Friday, following an initial apprehension a day earlier, during which he was questioned by authorities. A senior police officer stated, “The investigation has revealed that Harsh was driving a Swift car with his friend Pankaj as a passenger. They were returning from a gathering in Gurugram when the tragedy struck.”

Another senior officer confirmed that Pankaj had urged Harsh to slow down, but his warnings went unheeded, ultimately leading to the fatal crash.

The victims have been identified as Anish Ansari, 45, an employee at a factory in Mayapuri, and Phool Singh, 35, a chick maker. The injured individuals include Kuldeep, 28, Phool’s wife Soni, 25, and their five-year-old nephew, Vishal, as reported by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Vichitra Veer.

Witnesses indicated that the group was looking for a dhaba when the accident occurred. The DCP noted that Harsh lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed, resulting in the collision with the cyclists and the jhuggi.

The DCP further stated that, upon verification, it was discovered that the individual possesses a driver’s license. Additionally, a medical examination revealed that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the assessment.
