New Delhi, May 28: Two elderly women were found dead inside a house in Delhi’s New Rajinder Nagar area, prompting a police investigation into the mysterious incident.
According to initial information, the bodies of the two women, both believed to be around 80 years old, were discovered inside the residence after the domestic help arrived for cleaning work and noticed a foul smell coming from inside the house.
As the door did not open despite repeated attempts, the maid informed the Delhi Police, following which police personnel reached the spot and broke open the door to enter the house.
Police found one body lying on a bed, while the other was found on the floor inside the house.
The deceased women have been identified as Saroj and Chandra Bala alias Chandrakanta, according to local reports.
Officials said the domestic worker had reportedly not visited the house for the past two days, and the incident came to light only after she returned on Thursday.
Police are currently probing multiple angles, including the possibility of personal rivalry or whether one of the women may have harmed the other before dying.
However, preliminary examination has reportedly not revealed any visible injury marks or immediate evidence of foul play on the bodies.
A police team and forensic officials reached the spot and further investigation is currently underway to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Local residents also gathered outside the house as police conducted the inquiry.
