NEW DELHI: A young woman was tragically assaulted near the Moolchand Metro station in southeast Delhi’s Amar Colony area. The victim, an 18-year-old vagabond from West Bengal, was reportedly raped by a rickshaw puller named Banty Singh, 48, late Monday night.

According to police reports, Singh approached the girl near the metro station and threatened her before assaulting her behind a group of parked rickshaws. The victim, who had been living under the metro bridge and surviving by begging, struggled to communicate the details of the incident to authorities and required the assistance of a Bengali interpreter.

Singh was apprehended by police on Wednesday and the victim was promptly taken to AIIMS for a medical examination. Doctors confirmed the assault and noted visible injuries, including bite marks.

This disturbing incident serves as a reminder of the vulnerability faced by marginalized individuals in our society. It is imperative that we work together to ensure the safety and well-being of all members of our community.
