Notorious Auto Thief with 70 Cases on Record Apprehended by Delhi Police

Date:

New Delhi: The Delhi Police have successfully captured Avtar Singh, also known as Hunny Singh, a 34-year-old fugitive wanted in connection with a staggering number of auto theft cases. Singh was apprehended in Patiala, Punjab, after an extensive manhunt. Singh, a proclaimed offender, is linked to 70 prior incidents of vehicle theft spanning various districts within Delhi.

A school dropout, Singh honed his criminal skills after associating with auto-lifters in the Mayapuri area. He quickly mastered the art of unlocking and disposing of stolen vehicles, transitioning to full-time theft for quick profit.

“Avtar Singh had been evading authorities for an extended period, frequently shifting locations to avoid capture,” stated Vikram Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime). “Following specific intelligence and robust technical surveillance, we successfully tracked and arrested him on June 10 in Patiala, Punjab.”

Singh was a wanted individual in multiple cases and had been officially declared a proclaimed offender in four separate First Information Reports (FIRs) filed at police stations including Khayala, Mayapuri, Tilak Nagar, and Nangloi.

Further legal proceedings under the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) are now underway concerning a case registered at the Rani Bagh police station. A Non-Bailable Warrant had also been issued against him in connection with a separate case from the same station.

Authorities have recovered a significant number of stolen vehicles attributed to Singh during prior arrests. Adding to the family legacy, Singh’s younger brother, Gurjeet Singh, also known as Happy, is also a convicted vehicle thief and is currently incarcerated in Tihar Jail in relation to over 50 criminal cases.

This arrest represents a significant victory for the Delhi Police in their ongoing efforts to combat auto theft in the region.
