New Delhi: Delhi Police have busted an alleged interstate cyber-fraud gang accused of using fabricated UPI payment screenshots to deceive shopkeepers and gain possession of their mobile phones.
Delhi Police disclosed the operation through a post on its official X account and attributed the action to the Cyber Police Station team of North District.
“फर्जी UPI पेमेंट स्क्रीनशॉट दिखाकर दुकानदारों का मोबाइल फोन हासिल कर बैंक/UPI खातों से पैसे ट्रांसफर कर लेते थे,” Delhi Police stated in the post.
According to police, the accused displayed fake payment screenshots to convince shopkeepers that payments had been completed. After obtaining their mobile phones, the suspects allegedly transferred money from the victims’ bank or UPI accounts.
Police said investigators used technical analysis, banking-transaction records and intelligence inputs to identify the suspects.
The alleged principal accused and two people accused of providing mule accounts were apprehended during the operation, according to the X post.
Delhi Police said the gang had so far been linked to eight cases involving alleged fraud exceeding ₹30.81 lakh.
