Delhi Police Bust Fake Bisleri Racket in Shakurpur; Two Arrested for Counterfeit Bottling

Date:

New Delhi: In a major crackdown on counterfeit goods threatening public health, Delhi Police has busted an illegal fake Bisleri bottling racket operating out of the Shakurpur area in northwest Delhi and arrested two individuals involved in the manufacturing and distribution of counterfeit packaged drinking water.

The accused — Sikander (30) and Ashish (19), both residents of Shakurpur — were arrested during a coordinated raid following a complaint from Bisleri’s brand representatives about unauthorised use of their labels and packaging, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh.

“The duo had established an illegal bottling unit to produce and distribute fake water bottles under the Bisleri name, posing serious health hazards to the public and infringing on intellectual property rights,” the DCP said in an official statement.

Police recovered 26 counterfeit 20-litre Bisleri bottles, 127 fake stickers, 387 forged barcodes, 55 bottle caps, and 7 heater guns and lighters used for labelling. The operation was spread across two locations in Shakurpur.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to running the fake bottling unit since 2023. A third person, Vishal Gupta, has also been identified for illegally supplying water for the fake operation via unauthorised borewells. He faces legal action under the Environment Protection Act.

The police are further investigating the supply chain and distribution network and have warned of stringent action against those indulging in counterfeit operations, particularly in sectors related to food and public health safety.
