Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Cracks Down on MCD: Waste-to-Energy Plants, 1,000 Toilets Redevelopment, Strict Cleanliness Push

Date:

New Delhi: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta chaired a high-level review meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), issuing strict directions to improve waste management and cleanliness systems across the national capital, with a focus on accountability and time-bound execution.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister directed MCD to adopt modern and sustainable waste processing methods, announcing that state-of-the-art Waste-to-Energy plants will be established in Ghazipur, Narela, Okhla, and Tekhand. These facilities are expected to significantly enhance waste disposal capacity and reduce landfill burden in the city.

As part of infrastructure upgrades, nearly 1,000 public toilets and urinal blocks under MCD will be redeveloped to improve sanitation standards. In addition, three new gobar gas plants are set to be operational soon in Goyla Dairy, Ghogha, and Ghazipur, aimed at promoting eco-friendly waste management solutions.

The Chief Minister also instructed officials to implement a strict recovery mechanism for enhanced fines imposed on individuals and entities responsible for littering, ensuring deterrence against violations. MCD was further directed to coordinate closely with the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to ensure regular and systematic cleaning across all markets.

Special campaigns have been ordered for effective and continuous garbage clearance along railway tracks, addressing a long-standing civic concern. Emphasising quality in infrastructure development, the Chief Minister instructed that experienced companies be assigned road construction and repair works, with clear accountability mechanisms in place.

Officials have been directed to closely monitor all ongoing works and ensure their completion within stipulated timelines, reinforcing the government’s commitment to improving civic services in Delhi.

The meeting was attended by Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma, Leader of the House Pravesh Wahi, Chief Secretary Rajeev Verma, Municipal Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar, along with other senior officials.
