Delhi Mayor Asks MCD to Clear Sanitation Workers’ Dues Before Diwali

Date:

New Delhi: Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi has asked the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to make efforts to clear sanitation workers’ pending salaries and other dues before Diwali, preferably before November 8, according to an October 29 release.

In a letter to the Municipal Commissioner, Wahi also called for sanitation workers’ pay to be linked to an attendance system across all MCD zones. The Commissioner was asked to begin the process immediately and designate a nodal officer in each zone to oversee implementation.

Attendance-linked pay process

The Mayor’s letter said biometric or Aadhaar-linked attendance records could be used to match salary payments with employees’ actual attendance. The release describes a system to be implemented, rather than one already operating.

Wahi asked the Commissioner to issue instructions to officials and report back on action taken. The release does not specify the number of workers with pending dues or the amount outstanding, and does not announce that payments have been completed.
