Kalindi Kunj Patrol Holds Two; One Wanted in MCOCA Case, Say Police

Date:

New Delhi: A patrol in Kalindi Kunj apprehended two men, including a suspect wanted in an MCOCA case whom police linked to the Maya Gang, after their motorcycle skidded as they allegedly tried to evade a check.

South-East district police identified the two as Md. Umar Ansari and Sumit Beniwal, both aged 23. The incident took place near Peepal Chowk on Pushta Road in Madanpur Khadar at about 9 pm on October 25, according to the police release.

Motorcycle skids during attempted escape

Constables Ajharuddin and Devender were patrolling the area when they signalled the motorcycle to stop. Police said the rider tried to flee, lost balance and fell with the other rider, following which both were apprehended.

The patrol was operating under the supervision of Kalindi Kunj SHO Inspector Raman Kumar Singh, ATO Inspector Kishor Kumar and Sarita Vihar ACP Anil Sharma.

Knife, phones and motorcycle seized

Police said a button-operated knife was recovered from Beniwal. A Realme mobile phone recovered from Ansari was linked to an Amar Colony e-FIR, while other phones were also seized or checked. The motorcycle was reported stolen from the New Friends Colony area, according to police.

A case numbered 598/2026 was registered at Kalindi Kunj police station on October 26. Police said Ansari was wanted in Amar Colony FIR 193/2026 under MCOCA and alleged that he was associated with the Maya Gang.

Police said the arrests helped work out 11 cases, including the MCOCA case and cases of snatching, theft and burglary registered at Amar Colony, New Friends Colony and Kalkaji police stations. The police release listed 11 previous cases against Ansari and 18 against Beniwal; these figures refer to alleged involvement recorded by police, not convictions.
