Date:

Delhi: Delhi Police have arrested a 20-year-old man and seized 52 cartons of illicit liquor from a Maruti Eeco intercepted near the Sector-5 Bawana underpass on UER-II, as investigators probe the source and wider supply network allegedly operating across the Haryana-Delhi border.

The operation was carried out by the Metro Vihar Police Post team of Police Station Narela Industrial Area on October 16 after patrolling personnel received information about illicit liquor being transported in a white Maruti Eeco towards Dwarka via UER-II, police said.

Acting on the information, the team set up a trap near the Sector-5 Bawana Underpass Cut at UER-II, Holambi Khurd.

During the late evening, police intercepted a white Maruti Eeco bearing registration number DL-1LT-0379.

The driver was identified as Radhey, 20, son of Sarju and a resident of Vijay Vihar in Rohini.

According to police, a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 52 cartons containing 2,200 quarters and 96 bottles of illicit liquor.

Radhey was apprehended at the spot, while the liquor and the Maruti Eeco allegedly used for transportation were taken into police possession following the prescribed legal procedure.

Police subsequently registered FIR No. 579/2026 at PS Narela Industrial Area under Sections 33, 38 and 58(D) of the Delhi Excise Act.

Police said Radhey has four previous involvements in cases under the Excise Act.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Inspector Manoj Kumar, SHO of PS Narela Industrial Area, and led by SI Mohan Lal, in-charge of PP Metro Vihar, along with Head Constable Maninder and Constables Ajay and Amit.

The action was carried out under the overall supervision of senior Outer North District officers, police said.

Investigators are now trying to establish where the seized liquor was procured from, identify others allegedly involved in its supply and transportation, and trace the complete network operating across the Haryana-Delhi border.
