New Delhi: What began with a patrol team spotting two men riding a recently stolen scooty in Samaypur Badli led police to recover 10 stolen two-wheelers and link the accused to multiple vehicle theft cases across Delhi and Haryana.
The two arrested men have been identified as Manish, 30, a resident of Rajdhani Park, Nangloi, and Laxmi Narayan Bansal, 52, a resident of Shakur Basti, Saraswati Vihar. Police said Manish has previous involvement in 30 criminal cases relating to theft, robbery and offences under the Arms Act, while Bansal has one previous involvement.
The case began after a scooty bearing registration number DL-11P-0299 was reported stolen on October 14 from the area of Sector 18/19 Metro Station. An e-FIR, No. 025033/26, was registered at Samaypur Badli Police Station under Section 305(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
During the initial investigation, beat staff examined CCTV footage and noticed two persons allegedly involved in the theft, though their identities could not be established at that stage.
Later the same evening, Samaypur Badli police personnel on patrol spotted two persons riding the same stolen scooty. According to police, the riders tried to flee after noticing the team, but were chased and apprehended.
The stolen scooty was recovered from them and both were arrested in the case.
Police said sustained questioning and follow-up action subsequently led to the recovery of nine more stolen two-wheelers at the instance of the accused.
The additional recovery comprised six motorcycles and three scooties. Along with the scooty recovered at the time of arrest, the total seizure came to 10 two-wheelers — six motorcycles and four scooties.
Verification linked the vehicles to theft cases registered at Samaypur Badli, Paschim Vihar West, Shahbad Dairy, KNK Marg, Paschim Vihar East, Aman Vihar, Swaroop Nagar, Mangolpuri and Shahbad in Kurukshetra, Haryana.
Among the recovered vehicles were scooties bearing registration numbers DL-11P-0299, DL-14SC-6828, DL-6SAV-6116 and DL-4SBY-6531.
The recovered motorcycles include HR-42G-5046, DL-8SCF-6362, DL-8SBR-2007, DL-12SR-1470, DL-11A-7164 and HR-07X-9529.
Police said the Kurukshetra-linked motorcycle was connected to FIR No. 512/26 dated October 13 under Section 303 BNS at Shahbad Police Station in Haryana.
The operation was led by Inspector Shailender Singh Jakhar, SHO of Samaypur Badli Police Station, with Head Constable Raju Ram and Constable Ashok forming part of the team.
The action was carried out under the supervision of ACP/SP Badli Firoz Alam and the guidance of Additional DCP-I, Outer North District, Lokeshwaran R.
Further investigation is underway to determine whether the accused are involved in additional vehicle theft cases, identify any more stolen vehicles and examine the possible role of other associates.
Police are also verifying ownership and theft particulars of the recovered vehicles with the concerned police stations in Delhi and Haryana.
