New Delhi: An old MCD waste collection depot in Subhash Nagar has been redeveloped into the West Zone’s first Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) centre. Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi inaugurated the facility on October 12.
The centre is intended to reduce discarded and underused household material, encourage the reuse of useful items and promote recycling, according to MCD.
Wahi said similar centres would be set up in every ward of the West Zone in the near future.
The mayor said the initiative aimed to encourage residents to reduce waste, reuse items and separate recyclable material appropriately. He linked the effort to better use of limited resources and greater awareness of cleanliness and environmental protection.
Punjabi Bagh pollution hotspot inspected
MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar also visited the air pollution hotspot in Punjabi Bagh in the West Zone. He inspected the civic body’s work on cleanliness, road cleaning and dust control and issued directions to officials.
JS Enviro’s work in 18 wards reviewed
At a subsequent review meeting in the West Zone office, Khirwar assessed the performance of JS Enviro in the 18 wards where the company is working.
The meeting also discussed a plan for the company to take over operations in the remaining seven wards.
Councillors’ suggestions and feedback, the forthcoming work plan and measures to improve the quality and effectiveness of civic services were also considered.
