New Delhi: A ₹263.45-crore drainage project has been approved for Kirari, with a new 4.5-kilometre drain alongside the railway line intended to address longstanding waterlogging in the area.
The approval came at an Expenditure Finance Committee meeting chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, her office said on October 6. The government has set December 2027 as the completion target.
Drainage across four constituencies
The proposed drain will have a capacity of 760 cusecs and is intended to improve drainage in Kirari, Mundka, Bawana and Nangloi Jat assembly constituencies, according to the Chief Minister’s Office.
The office said residents of more than 70 unauthorised colonies in Kirari and neighbouring areas would benefit from the project. It described the work as a step towards a stronger, long-term drainage system.
The announcement presents relief from waterlogging as the project’s intended outcome; construction is targeted for completion by December 2027.
