New Delhi: Delhi Police have recovered 4,500 quarters of illicit country-made liquor from a Tata Ace tempo in the Khera Kalan area under Alipur police station and apprehended its driver, according to the Outer North District police.
The driver was identified as Sunil, 32, a resident of Janti Kalan village in Haryana’s Sonipat district. Police said the consignment was being transported from Haryana towards Delhi.
Patrolling personnel stopped the tempo after finding it suspicious. The vehicle was covered with a tarpaulin, and a search revealed liquor concealed inside, police said. The bottles were of the “Falcon’s Santara Desi Sharab” brand and bore the marking “For Sale in Haryana Only”.
A case was registered at Alipur police station under Sections 33 and 38 of the Delhi Excise Act, with FIR number 553/2026. Police said they seized the liquor and the tempo used to transport it.
The operation was carried out under the directions of Joint Commissioner of Police, Northern Range, Vijay Kumar, the guidance of Additional DCP-I, Outer North District, Lokeshwaran R, and the supervision of ACP Firoz Alam.
Investigators are working to establish where the liquor was procured, its intended destination and the transportation route. Police said they were also seeking to identify others involved in procuring, transporting and supplying the consignment, and to trace the wider network linked to the alleged illegal liquor trade.
