New Delhi: Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi has directed MCD officials to prepare a plan to demolish a dilapidated community building in Ward 43, Sultanpuri-A, and use the site for community activities. During an inspection of the ward, he also ordered immediate repairs to broken manholes, removal of roadside debris and action against encroachments on public land.
Local councillor Bobby, North West Zone Deputy Commissioner Anshul Sirohi and senior MCD officials accompanied the Mayor as he reviewed sanitation and civic facilities, according to a statement issued by the corporation.
Community building plan and street repairs
Wahi asked officials to draw up an action plan for the unsafe community building and its subsequent use for community purposes. The statement announced directions to prepare the plan; it did not report that demolition had already taken place.
The Mayor instructed the departments concerned to clear rubble lying along roads and repair damaged manholes immediately. He also called for strict action against encroachments on public land across the ward.
Action against unlicensed fish-market shops
During a visit to the fish market, Wahi directed officials to act against shops operating without licences. The MCD statement did not specify the number of such shops or give a separate deadline for the enforcement action.
Park boundary wall and upkeep
At a park in Ward 43, the Mayor ordered construction of a boundary wall, removal of shrubs and weeds, and pruning of trees. He also asked officials to arrange for the park’s maintenance to be outsourced to the residents’ welfare association.
Wahi said support from Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta increased the corporation’s responsibility to improve sanitation and civic services. Public representatives were carrying out inspections to strengthen sanitation arrangements, he said.
The Mayor also emphasised public awareness and residents’ participation in keeping neighbourhoods clean. He said the MCD was working to make Delhi cleaner under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance.
According to the MCD, Wahi undertook the inspection while mourning the death of his mother.
