New Delhi: The Delhi Government has announced that no adverse legal action will be taken against persons who participated in protests related to the alleged irregularities in the NEET (UG) examination, except those with criminal antecedents.
In a press release issued by the Home Department on July 30, the government said Delhi Police had registered 13 cases in connection with the protests as of 6 pm on July 29.
The decision follows the Supreme Court’s July 28 order in the case of Shailendra Mani Tripathi v. Union of India & Others. The Home Department said the protection from legal action will not extend to persons with criminal antecedents, in accordance with the Supreme Court’s directions.
The government has also directed that cases involving persons arrested or detained in connection with the protests be reviewed and that the process for their release be undertaken expeditiously wherever applicable.
The order further states that the Government of NCT of Delhi does not propose to initiate any further adverse action against individuals covered by the decision and that the matter shall be treated as closed without any future proceedings.
The press release states that the order has been issued with the approval of the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
