FSSAI Suspends Licence of Park Plaza Hotel Unit for 15 Days Over Serious Food Safety Violations

Date:

New Delhi: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has suspended the licence of M/s Park Plaza, a unit of Mahagun Hotels Pvt. Ltd., for 15 days following the detection of multiple serious food safety and hygiene violations during an inspection by its Northern Regional Office.

According to FSSAI, the inspection revealed the use of heavily degraded cooking oil, severe unhygienic conditions, visible fungal growth on vegetables, spoiled lemons kept for use, and the absence of segregation between vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, ingredients and utensils.

The authority also reported the presence of a live earworm in the food preparation area, around 63.60 kg of expired food products intended for use, food handlers with open wounds engaged in food preparation, contaminated equipment including a hairnet found inside a cocoa powder container, and drinking water bottles being refilled without proper washing or sanitisation.

FSSAI said kitchen equipment, including knives, mixers and food-contact surfaces, lacked mandatory cleaning, posing an immediate microbial risk.

As part of the enforcement action, the food business operator has been directed to immediately cease all food business activities. The establishment has been given 15 days to rectify all deficiencies and submit a comprehensive compliance report supported by documentary evidence.

FSSAI said failure to comply within the stipulated period could lead to further action, including cancellation of the food licence.
