Delhi Police Busts ₹20 Lakh Racket Selling Repackaged Expired Imported Food Products; Seven Arrested

Date:

New Delhi, July 3: The Delhi Police has unearthed a highly organised racket involved in the illegal sale of expired international branded food products, arresting seven persons allegedly involved in changing manufacturing and expiry dates before repackaging and selling the products as genuine in the market.

The operation was carried out by a team from Police Station Okhla Industrial Area in South East Delhi. According to the police, the racket was systematically engaged in collecting expired imported food products, tampering with their original manufacturing and expiry dates and repackaging them for resale to unsuspecting consumers.

Police said the accused allegedly manipulated product labels and packaging to make expired food items appear fresh before reintroducing them into the market, posing a serious threat to consumer health and safety.

During the operation, the police seized a large quantity of expired international branded food products with an estimated market value of more than ₹20 lakh.

The seven accused arrested in the case have been identified as Darshan Singh Sachdeva, Nitesh Bhardwaj, Narender Kumar, Kapil, Lucky Ojha, Prem Yadav and Pawan Kumar Yadav.

According to investigators, the racket was operating in an organised manner, with different individuals allegedly handling procurement, relabelling, repackaging and distribution of the expired food products.

Delhi Police is now investigating the source of the expired products, the distribution network, the number of retailers supplied by the accused and whether similar consignments were circulated in other parts of Delhi and neighbouring states.

Further investigation is underway to identify additional persons connected to the racket and determine the full extent of the illegal operation.
