Delhi Govt Grants Major Relief to 15 Lakh Residents in O-Zone Areas; No Demolition of Existing Homes

Date:

New Delhi, June 10: In a major relief for nearly 15 lakh residents living in Delhi’s O-Zone areas, the Delhi Government led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced that no demolition action will be taken against existing residential structures in the region.

The decision covers 91 unauthorized colonies and around a dozen old villages falling under the O-Zone category. Existing homes constructed in these areas will not face any demolition drive, providing significant relief to thousands of families.

The government, however, clarified that strict vigilance will continue to protect the Yamuna flood plain from fresh encroachments and illegal construction activities. Authorities will closely monitor the area and initiate necessary action against any new violations of rules and regulations.

Officials said the move seeks to balance the interests of long-time residents while ensuring the ecological protection and preservation of the Yamuna flood plain. The government reiterated its commitment to preventing further unauthorized development in environmentally sensitive zones.

The announcement is expected to benefit a large population residing in these colonies and villages, many of whom have been facing uncertainty regarding the status of their homes for years.
