Bomb Threat Email Sent to MCD Mayor Turns Out to Be Hoax; Delhi Police Launch Probe

Date:

New Delhi, June 5: A threatening email sent to the official email account of the Mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) triggered a major security response in the national capital, prompting Delhi Police and specialized security teams to conduct extensive searches at the Dr. S.P. Mukherjee Civic Centre and surrounding areas.

According to Delhi Police, information was received on Wednesday regarding an email that allegedly contained references to possible bomb blasts at certain locations in Delhi and adjoining regions.

Acting swiftly, Delhi Police, along with the Bomb Disposal Squad and Dog Squad, launched a comprehensive anti-sabotage operation at the MCD headquarters. Security teams thoroughly searched the entire Civic Centre building, including offices, common areas, corridors, parking facilities and surrounding premises.

Police officials said no suspicious object, explosive material or security threat was found during the extensive inspection. Following the search operation, the premises were declared safe.

Authorities immediately implemented additional precautionary security measures and directed police personnel to maintain heightened vigilance around the Civic Centre and other sensitive locations.

Delhi Police stated that an investigation has been initiated to identify the source of the email. Technical analysis and cyber investigations are currently underway to trace the origin of the threatening communication.

Preliminary findings suggest that the email was intended to create panic and unnecessary alarm. Officials indicated that the message appears to be a hoax, although all aspects of the case are being thoroughly examined.

Delhi Police has urged citizens not to panic and advised the public to rely only on official information released by law enforcement agencies and government authorities.

The incident comes amid heightened security monitoring across Delhi, with authorities continuing to maintain vigilance against potential threats while investigating the source and motive behind the email.
