MCD Commissioner Reviews Waterlogging-Prone Areas Ahead of Monsoon, Directs Faster Drainage and Infrastructure Works

Date:

New Delhi, June 2: With the monsoon season approaching, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar conducted an inspection of waterlogging-prone locations and ongoing infrastructure projects in the City SP Zone, directing officials to strengthen drainage systems and expedite development works.

During the visit, the Commissioner reviewed preparations aimed at preventing waterlogging and ensuring uninterrupted civic services during the rainy season. He instructed officials to complete all pre-monsoon arrangements within stipulated timelines and maintain close monitoring of vulnerable locations.

Khirwar first inspected the Railway Under Bridge (RUB) at Kishanganj, a location known for potential water accumulation during heavy rainfall. He reviewed arrangements being made to tackle waterlogging and directed officials to ensure adequate deployment of pumps well before the onset of the monsoon.

The Commissioner emphasized that all pumping equipment should be fully operational and ready for immediate use to prevent disruptions in water drainage during periods of intense rainfall.

He later visited Drain No. 10 in Padam Nagar and reviewed its condition. Officials were instructed to ensure regular desilting, cleaning and maintenance of the drain so that stormwater can flow smoothly during the monsoon season.

Khirwar stressed that an efficient drainage network is critical to preventing waterlogging and said negligence in maintenance of drains and stormwater infrastructure would not be tolerated.

As part of the inspection, the Commissioner also reviewed ongoing road construction works in the M and E Blocks of Shastri Nagar. He assessed the quality and pace of construction and directed engineers to ensure strict adherence to prescribed standards.

Officials were instructed to accelerate the works and complete the projects ahead of schedule to minimize inconvenience to residents and improve road infrastructure before the rainy season intensifies.

The Commissioner reiterated MCD’s commitment to minimizing waterlogging and providing better civic services during the monsoon. He directed all concerned departments to work in close coordination and prioritize completion of critical pre-monsoon preparedness measures.

Senior officials, including City SP Zone Deputy Commissioner Kanika, Chief Engineer P.C. Meena and other MCD officers, accompanied the Commissioner during the inspection.

The visit forms part of the civic body’s wider monsoon preparedness strategy focused on improving drainage efficiency, preventing flooding and ensuring smoother movement of traffic and residents during the rainy season.
