Union Minister Manohar Lal Reviews Bhalswa Dumpsite Cleanup on Thursday, Reaffirms October 2026 Deadline for Complete Closure

New Delhi, May 28: Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Power, Manohar Lal, on Thursday conducted a detailed inspection of the ongoing waste processing and cleaning operations at the Bhalswa Dumpsite in Delhi and reiterated the target of completely eliminating the landfill site by October 2026.

Sharing details of the visit on social media platform X, the Union Minister stated that he had last year resolved to ensure complete closure of the Bhalswa garbage mountain by October 2026 and that the work is currently progressing at a “war-footing pace” to achieve the deadline.

Manohar Lal said large-scale processing of legacy waste and scientific disposal of garbage are being accelerated through modern technologies to dismantle the massive landfill site.

He further stated that parallel efforts are also underway to improve cleanliness, public health safety and civic amenities in nearby residential areas while ensuring adherence to environmental standards.

The Union Minister emphasized that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government remains fully committed to the objectives of the Swachh Bharat Mission and to providing Delhi residents with a clean and pollution-free environment.

According to the Minister, all necessary administrative and operational measures are being implemented rapidly to ensure that the Bhalswa Dumpsite is closed within the stipulated timeline.

MCD Commissioner and IAS officer Sanjiv Khirwar also accompanied the Union Minister during the inspection visit.
