New Delhi: A notorious criminal with a long criminal history and multiple convictions was arrested after a brief exchange of fire with Delhi Police in South East Delhi late Tuesday night.
The encounter took place around 10 PM near DDA Park adjacent to Kaya Maya Hospital under the Pul Prahladpur police station area. The operation was conducted by a police team from PS Pul Prahladpur under the supervision of ACP Badarpur Shri Akash Agrawal.
According to police, the team had received secret information about the movement of Sunil alias Shetty alias Deva (50), an active “Bad Character” (BC) of Govindpuri police station who was wanted in a recent armed robbery and attempt to culpable homicide case registered at PS Pul Prahladpur.
Acting on the tip-off, police laid a trap to apprehend the accused. However, when the team attempted to intercept him, Sunil allegedly opened fire on the police personnel. In retaliation and self-defence, the police fired back, and one bullet struck the accused on his left leg.

Police officials stated that Sunil has a criminal record dating back to 1999 and is considered a habitual offender. He is involved in at least 16 criminal cases and has already been convicted in seven serious offences, including murder, attempt to murder, robbery, and Arms Act violations across multiple police station jurisdictions such as Kalkaji, Okhla Industrial Area (OIA), and Tilak Marg.
Investigators said he was also the prime accused in FIR No. 111/26 related to robbery and attempted culpable homicide registered recently at PS Pul Prahladpur.
During the operation, police recovered a country-made pistol, one empty cartridge, and a robbed mobile phone from his possession.
The accused has been taken into custody and further legal proceedings are underway.
