New Delhi: A Delhi Police head constable posted with the Special Cell has been arrested after allegedly opening fire in Dwarka, resulting in the death of one person and leaving another injured.
According to Delhi Police, the incident took place around 2:00 AM in the Jaffarpur Kalan area, where Head Constable Neeraj allegedly fired at two labourers following a dispute. Both victims were hit by the gunfire, with one succumbing to injuries on the spot, while the other is undergoing treatment.
Preliminary information suggests that the labourers were celebrating a birthday late at night, and an argument reportedly broke out over noise, which escalated into violence. Police are also investigating whether the accused was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
The accused had initially gone absconding after the firing, prompting a manhunt and multiple raids by Delhi Police. He has now been apprehended and taken into custody.
A murder case has been registered, and further investigation is underway. Police officials said that after the post-mortem examination, the body of the deceased will be handed over to the family.
The incident has raised serious concerns, as it involves a serving police personnel allegedly misusing a service weapon in a public area, leading to loss of life.
