Delhi Mayor Inaugurates Advanced Eye Care Centre at Swami Dayanand Hospital, Boost to Affordable Healthcare

Date:

New Delhi: In a significant push to strengthen public healthcare, Delhi Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh on Friday inaugurated an Advanced Eye Care Centre at the OPD Block of Swami Dayanand Hospital, aiming to enhance access to quality and affordable eye treatment for residents of East Delhi and adjoining areas.

Equipped with modern diagnostic and treatment technologies, the new centre is expected to play a crucial role in addressing eye-related ailments and improving overall vision care services in the region.

During his visit, the Mayor also inspected key hospital facilities, including the Lactation Management Unit and Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and reviewed the functioning of the advanced Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) machine, which is vital for critically ill patients.

Advanced Technology for Eye Care

The hospital has operationalised several state-of-the-art machines under the new facility, including:

  • ND:YAG Laser Machine
  • Green Laser Machine
  • Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) Machine

These technologies will aid in the early detection and treatment of serious eye conditions such as glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, significantly improving patient outcomes.

Mayor’s Vision for Healthcare

Addressing the gathering, Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh said that delivering world-class healthcare services remains the top priority for the city administration. He described the new centre as a major step towards ensuring timely, affordable, and high-quality medical care for all citizens.

“We are committed to leveraging modern technology and expertise to take Delhi’s healthcare system to new heights,” he said, adding that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi will continue to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the coming years.

Focus on Local Access

Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma emphasised that such advanced centres will allow citizens to access specialised treatment within their local areas, reducing the need to travel to larger hospitals. She reiterated the corporation’s commitment to making healthcare accessible and efficient for every resident.

Heatwave Preparedness Measures

Additional Commissioner Pankaj Naresh Agarwal directed hospital authorities to ensure adequate arrangements to tackle heatwave conditions. He also instructed the setup of an ‘ORS Corner’ within the hospital to prevent dehydration and diarrhoea, ensuring prompt care during extreme weather.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by key officials including Puneet Sharma (Chairman, Shahdara North Zone), Veer Singh Pawar (Councillor), Dr. Rajesh Kumar Bansal (Director, Hospital Administration), along with senior municipal officers.

The initiative marks a significant step in improving public health infrastructure and specialised medical services in Delhi.
