New Delhi: Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu visited DDA’s Swabhiman Apartments at Jailorwala Bagh in Ashok Vihar, describing the project as a flagship initiative aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Jahan Jhuggi, Wahin Makan.”
The project comprises modern multi-storey pucca homes with ownership rights, aimed at providing dignity, security, and stability to economically weaker sections. The Lieutenant Governor termed it a landmark initiative with the potential to be replicated across the country.
During his visit, Sandhu interacted with residents, who expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for the housing initiative. However, residents also raised concerns regarding seepage, improper garbage management, irregular functioning of lifts in some towers, and disturbances caused by miscreants.
Taking note of these issues, the Lieutenant Governor issued clear directions to the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), the District Administration, and Delhi Police to address the concerns on priority and ensure a safe, clean, and well-maintained living environment.
He emphasized that maintaining the quality and integrity of such projects is essential for achieving the broader goal of building a ‘Viksit Dilli’ and ‘Viksit Bharat’.
While highlighting the project as a model of transformative infrastructure, Sandhu cautioned that it must not be allowed to deteriorate due to lapses in maintenance and urged authorities to ensure sustained upkeep and accountability.
