Army Brigadier Assaulted in Delhi: Wife Alleges Police Inaction, FIR Registered; Army Seeks Swift Action

Date:

New Delhi: A shocking incident has emerged from the national capital where a serving Army Brigadier was allegedly assaulted, with his wife accusing the police of inaction and misconduct during the episode.

According to the Brigadier’s wife, Nitasha, the incident took place on April 11 around 9:45 PM when her husband and son had stepped out for a walk. “They returned searching for his mobile and informed that two individuals sitting inside a Mercedes car were consuming alcohol. My husband and son objected, telling them that this is a respectable society and such behaviour is not acceptable,” she stated.

She further alleged that the situation escalated when the individuals began using abusive language and passed objectionable remarks. “We called a PCR vehicle. A policeman arrived and was about to record my statement, but the person in the car made him speak to someone over the phone. After that, the cop refused to take my statement,” she said.

Describing the assault, Nitasha added, “Soon, 7–8 men came out of another vehicle and started attacking my husband and son. I approached the PCR officer for help, but he refused to assist.”

The family later went to the Vasant Vihar police station around 10:45 PM, where they allegedly faced further harassment. “A lady officer misbehaved with us and said we were troubling them at night. The PCR officer had also reported the wrong vehicle number. We were not given medical assistance and could only submit a written complaint at around 2:13 AM,” she claimed.

Responding to the incident, Delhi Police stated that cognisance has been taken and an FIR has been registered. “The accused are being traced. During preliminary enquiry, a lapse was found on the part of the investigating officer, who has been sent to District Lines,” the statement said.

The FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 115(2), 126(2), 351(2), 79/191(2), and 190, based on the complaint filed by the officer’s wife.

Meanwhile, the Indian Army has also taken serious note of the incident. In an official statement, the Army said a Military Police team has been tasked to assist the officer and that Delhi Police has been approached to ensure a swift and thorough investigation.

The incident has raised serious concerns over public safety and police response, especially in cases involving serving defence personnel in the capital.
