Special MCD House Meeting: Budget Pitched as Roadmap to Clean, Green Delhi

Date:

New Delhi: A special House meeting of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was held on Monday to deliberate on the revised budget estimates for the financial year 2025–26 and the budget proposals for 2026–27.

Around 28 councillors participated in the discussion and put forward a wide range of suggestions aimed at strengthening the civic body’s finances and accelerating Delhi’s development. Key proposals included generating revenue through the licensing of illegal parking, constructing sports complexes in large municipal schools under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, and ensuring scientific utilisation of green waste for pollution control.

Councillors also called for special budgetary provisions for rural areas, the establishment of rest houses for women employees in every ward, deployment of JCB and super sucker machines at the ward level, and a comprehensive survey of unipoles to enhance municipal revenue. A proposal to constitute a dedicated task force against encroachment, with specific budgetary backing, also featured prominently during the debate.

Several councillors described the budget as a guiding framework for Delhi’s future growth, noting that it reflects a long-term vision for infrastructure development, cleanliness, and environmental sustainability.

Addressing the House, Mayor Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh thanked Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta for extending financial support to the Municipal Corporation. He said the MCD remains committed to transforming Delhi into a clean, green, and beautiful city, and described the budget as a decisive step in that direction.

The Mayor further stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s “triple-engine” government—at the Centre, Delhi government, and municipal level—is determined to eliminate garbage mountains and improve civic services across the capital. Expressing confidence in the ongoing budget exercise, he urged all councillors to participate actively in the discussions scheduled for the following day and to come prepared with constructive suggestions.

According to the Mayor, the proposed MCD budget is expected to accelerate Delhi’s development and align civic governance with the aspirations of its residents, reinforcing the administration’s focus on cleanliness, sustainability, and financial self-reliance.
