New Delhi: Senior IAS officer Shri Sanjeev Khirwar on Thursday assumed charge as the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), marking a new phase in the city’s civic administration.
A 1994-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the AGMUT cadre, Khirwar brings with him extensive experience across multiple sectors, including environment, revenue administration, and key roles within the Delhi government.
Soon after taking charge, Khirwar outlined a clear set of priorities for the municipal body. These include strengthening Delhi’s sanitation system, making the MCD financially self-reliant, improving ease of doing business, and ensuring efficient, citizen-friendly delivery of civic services across the capital.
Emphasising transparency and accountability, the new Commissioner underlined the importance of digital platforms and technology-enabled systems to speed up service delivery and enhance public trust in municipal governance.
With a strong academic background as a B.Tech in Computer Science, Khirwar is expected to push technology-driven governance and digital transformation within the MCD, aimed at improving service efficiency and overall civic administration in Delhi.
His appointment comes at a crucial time as the Municipal Corporation seeks to address long-standing challenges related to sanitation, finances, and service delivery in one of India’s largest urban centres.
