Massive Festive Rush in Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar Market Ahead of Diwali; Police Tighten Security and Crowd Control

Date:

New Delhi: With the festive season in full swing, Delhi’s markets are buzzing with Diwali excitement, and Lajpat Nagar Market has turned into one of the capital’s busiest shopping destinations. Thousands of shoppers have thronged the market over the weekend, creating a sea of humanity as they rush to purchase festive goods ahead of Dhanteras and Diwali.

Brightly lit shops, colourful decorations, and an array of home décor, diyas, clothes, and sweets have drawn massive crowds. From curtains to festive lamps, customers are filling their bags with last-minute purchases.

“We’ve come to buy household items and Diwali decorations. Yes, the crowd is heavy, but the atmosphere is amazing and prices are quite reasonable,” said Karan, one of the shoppers at Lajpat Nagar Market. Another visitor, Shyam Sundar, added, “There’s always a rush during Diwali, but Delhi Police are visible and managing the crowd well.”

Police Step Up Vigilance

The Delhi Police have deployed additional personnel across the market to ensure smooth movement and crowd control. According to officials, round-the-clock CCTV surveillance and continuous public announcements are being used to prevent any untoward incidents.

Security arrangements include traffic diversions, barricades, and designated parking areas to manage the influx of vehicles and pedestrians. “All precautionary measures have been taken to handle the festive rush,” said a senior police official.

Delhi’s Festive Spirit at Its Peak

Lajpat Nagar, one of Delhi’s most popular shopping hubs, is known for its heavy footfall even on regular days, but the Diwali season has amplified the energy. The market is packed with families and young shoppers hunting for the best festive deals.
