PM Modi to Inaugurate ₹11,000 Crore Highway Projects in Delhi on August 17: Dwarka Expressway Delhi Section and UER-II to Boost Connectivity, Ease Traffic Congestion

Date:

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two major highway infrastructure projects worth nearly ₹11,000 crore in Delhi on Sunday, August 17. The inauguration ceremony will take place at Rohini around 12:30 PM, where the Prime Minister will also address the public gathering.

The projects include the Delhi section of the Dwarka Expressway and the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II). Both projects are part of the Union Government’s broader plan to reduce traffic congestion, improve multi-modal connectivity, and enhance industrial and passenger movement across Delhi and the NCR region.

Dwarka Expressway Delhi Section

The 10.1 km Delhi section of Dwarka Expressway, developed at a cost of around ₹5,360 crore, will serve as a vital connectivity link. It will integrate multiple transport modes by connecting Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, DMRC Blue and Orange Metro lines, the upcoming Bijwasan Railway Station, and the Dwarka cluster Bus Depot.

  • Package I: 5.9 km stretch from Shiv Murti intersection to Dwarka Sector-21 Road Under Bridge (RUB).
  • Package II: 4.2 km stretch from Dwarka Sector-21 RUB to Delhi-Haryana Border, ensuring direct connectivity to Urban Extension Road-II.

The Haryana section (19 km) of the expressway had already been inaugurated by PM Modi in March 2024.

Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II)

The second major project being inaugurated is the Alipur to Dichaon Kalan stretch of UER-II, with new spurs linking Bahadurgarh and Sonipat. Built at a cost of around ₹5,580 crore, the corridor will decongest Delhi’s Inner and Outer Ring Roads and reduce pressure on busy junctions such as Mukarba Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, and NH-09.

The new UER-II spurs will provide direct access to Bahadurgarh and Sonipat, strengthen industrial connectivity, reduce city-bound traffic, and speed up goods movement in the NCR.

National Impact

Both projects reflect Prime Minister Modi’s vision of building world-class infrastructure that not only improves ease of living for citizens but also supports economic growth by enhancing logistics and trade movement.
