Three Held in ₹2.8 Crore Delhi Heist; Stolen Cash, Jewellery Traced to Bihar Forest Hideout

Date:

New Delhi: In a high-value burglary case, Delhi Police have arrested three individuals, including a domestic help, for allegedly stealing cash and jewellery worth over ₹2.8 crore from a residence in northwest Delhi’s Model Town. The heist involved ₹55 lakh in cash and a substantial amount of gold, diamond, and silver jewellery, police said on Tuesday.

The theft came to light on June 27 when Anita Jhunjhunwala, a resident of Model Town, filed a complaint alleging that her domestic worker, Arun Kumar, had absconded with cash and ornaments. CCTV footage later confirmed Kumar leaving the premises with an accomplice, carrying a bag and trolley.

Following intensive digital surveillance and field investigation in Bihar’s Banka district, the police apprehended three accused — Vivek Kumar (22), Birender Yadav (22), and Piyush Kumar Kapri (29) — from a forest near Budhighat village on July 10. The accused were caught while dividing the stolen items among themselves, said DCP (Northwest) Bhisham Singh.

During interrogation, the arrested trio confessed to the crime and revealed that Arun Kumar had conspired with five others from his native village. The gang executed the theft in a well-coordinated manner, with roles clearly assigned.

After the burglary, Birender Yadav handed over the cash and jewellery to his associate Dilip Yadav in Bonsi village. Dilip kept ₹17.5 lakh, out of which ₹5 lakh was handed to Rajesh (Krishna’s elder brother), while the rest was routed through a network of accomplices including Malti Yadav, Kishtu Yadav, Pawan Yadav, Sandeep Yadav, and Naveen Yadav — each allegedly keeping portions of the loot.

The gang members were first-time offenders, and during questioning, admitted they were tempted by the idea of fast money to support a luxurious lifestyle.

Recovered valuables include gold and diamond necklaces, rings, bangles, over 40 silver utensils, one gold biscuit, a silver sheet, and several other high-value items. Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 306 (theft by servant), Section 317(2) (stolen property), and Section 3(5) (joint liability).

The police are continuing raids to nab the remaining accused and trace all missing assets. Investigators are also examining bank accounts and financial transactions to uncover any links to wider criminal activities.
